Never let it be said Terrence Jones doesn’t keep his promises.

Three weeks after the Kentucky forward barreled into Louisville cheerleader Jerica Logue chasing down a loose ball during the Final Four, Jones found a way to atone for the four stitches she had to get at halftime to close the wound on top of her head. Jones showed up to Louisville cheerleading practice on Monday night with a bouquet of flowers just as he said he would do when informed about Logue’s injuries the night of the game.

“For her to get stitches during the game and it being my fault, I told her I would do it,” Jones told Louisville TV station WHAS. “I just had to keep to my word.”

Not everyone is happy about the Reds’ honoring Kentucky basketball’s national championship team before Cincinnati’s game with the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 tonight at Great American Ball Park.

In fact, the idea has turned into something of a controversy in the River City. Lance McAlister, host of WLW’s Sportstalk, said most of his two-hour show last night was taken up by people complaining and debating the Reds honoring John Calipari and Company.

If only Kentucky’s Marquis Teague were a dancer instead of a basketball player leaving college after a single academic year, there would be no lament. He has the name for it, does he not? You could see such a name in lights out front of the Stephen Sondheim Theater, a short walk up 43rd from Broadway toward 6th. Or you could imagine a young man with that name as the principle dancer in an elite ballet company, perhaps taking on the role of the Nutcracker Prince.

Well, maybe Teague might have trouble seeing all of that, but he’s got a star’s name no matter what endeavor he might undertake.

Our 42nd president, President Bill Clinton, was in town Monday to speak to Fayette County students at Rupp Arena. While he was here, he wanted – and we wanted him – to meet the team.

Mr. Clinton stopped by just after lunch and met in our locker room at the Joe Craft Center. The players had a chance to introduce themselves and take individual pictures with the president before we took a team picture with him.

What really meant a lot to me is the fact that he said he had never seen a group this talented that played so well together as a team. He said, “Problems in the world and problems in the United States can only be solved by teamwork. That’s it. This team has taught us the lesson that the higher the mountain, the more the team must be connected.”

The Southeastern Conference-leading Wildcats, who were ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball earlier this season, are fourth in the NCAA RPI, and have a 10-5 record against top-25 foes.
