As quickly as the internet rumors of Mitch Barnhart taking the Kansas AD job started, they were squashed. Well, somewhat. The KC Star is reporting that the search committee chairman, Ray Evans, has said no finalists have been named.
“We’re not there yet,” said Evans, a former KU football player in 1979-80 who is managing partner of Pegasus Capital Management in Overland Park. “We haven’t put any finalists in front of the chancellor yet. In the not-too-distant future, we’ll make recommendations, and the chancellor will have a variety of different discussions. The chancellor will make the selection.”
Another source told the Star that Barnhart is unlikely to get the job anyway:
Evans would not identify who had interviewed for the job. But a source with knowledge of KU’s search told The Star that Barnhart is not likely to land the Kansas job.
“It’d be tough for him to get in there,” the source said. “I wouldn’t spend a lot of time on Mitch Barnhart.”
WLEX is reporting that UK is expected to release a statement from Barnhart sometime today.
