Terrence Jones and Stacey Poole were involved in minor accident with a drunk driver early this morning. To be clear, although this will go spinning out of control no matter what, no drugs or alcohol were involved in the case of Jones and Poole.
In a statement on CoachCal.com, John Calipari informs us neither player was injured.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., Stacey Poole and Terrence Jones were involved in a car accident at the corner of Euclid Avenue and High Street. They were struck by a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver of the oncoming vehicle has been charged by police with driving under the influence.
The occupants of the victims’ vehicle were not charged with any wrongdoing. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found.
And to those questioning why Jones and Poole were out at 2:30 am, I don’t know. But they were not breaking any curfew rules. But a curfew is coming. And don’t fool yourselves, this happens at every college.
Our players did not break any rules by being out last night. As of yesterday, this team did not have a curfew and our normal procedure is to begin the season without one. I usually let the actions of my team determine a curfew. However, because of the actions of a select few, this team has showed me an inability to make proper judgment and decisions that they’ve been given the freedom to make.
Therefore, going forward, this team will now have a curfew for the rest of the season. I will inform the team of a time later today.
Jones did leave the scene reportedly to avoid an altercation. This on the surface does look somewhat suspicious. But since he was not the driver it was, as far as I can find, not illegal for him to do so. And I’m sure anything not on the up and up will be handled internally with a game or 2 suspension.
But hey, don’t let the facts stop the stories we’re bound to hear from rival fans (especially Cardinal fans). There should be some good ones.
Update:
It seems Larry Warren was with Terrence Jones and Stacey Poole at the time of the accident. It appears that maybe Warren was the one driving. Also, Warren tweeted around 10 or 11 last night that he was working out with Jones and Poole.

Was the other driver Pitino?
