There are a few rumors floating around. So far, none of them have been right. But what fun is a coaching search without wild rumors? So here’s what I’ve heard:
- The deal with Billy Donovan is all but done. The statement from Donovan about not being interested in any openings is a smoke screen
- Sean Miller has been in town and interviewed for the job.
- John Calipari is tops on UK’s list. Rick Bozich says to keep an eye on Calipari.
- The next two on UK’s list are Tom Izzo and Thad Matta.
- Rick Pitino has been contacted and is thinking about “coming home.”
I will say that some bloggers say Pitino will never coach at UK again. Never is a long time. A lot can happen between now and then.
That’s about it. Remember, don’t believe what anyone says about any coach, especially “insiders” with “sources.” They will usually speak in generalities and be sure to leave an out so they can come out looking right. Also remember that Wednesday is April 1. Unless there is an official statement released from UK, don’t believe anything.
